Time After Time Capsule Workshop with Kawaii Artist Sebastian Masuda
FREE (museum admission not included)
Help kawaii artist Sebastian Masuda fill a gigantic Hello Kitty time capsule! Bring a cherished personal item or write a letter to your future self, which you will work on and decorate at the workshop before adding it to the capsule. Masuda is organizing a total of 10 translucent time capsules as part of a long-term art project that will culminate in Tokyo in 2020. The capsules will all be returned to their cities of origin and reopened in 2035.
If you’re not able to attend the workshop, you can still bring a personal item to add to the capsule during regular museum hours (11 a.m. to last admission at 4:30 p.m.) on November 1.
After November 1, JANM visitors will be able to view the capsule as part of paid admission to the museum through January 29. There will be another workshop with Masuda on January 8, 2017, in conjunction with JANM’s Oshogatsu Family Festival.
Presented in collaboration with The Japan Foundation, Los Angeles.
