Celebrate the return of the Eaton Collection with the unveiling of JANM’s new exhibition, Contested Histories: Preserving and Sharing a Community Collection. Enhanced with new findings from around the US that fill gaps in the historical record, the exhibition returns to the Museum, where many of the recently restored artworks that sparked a national protest, decisive action, and multigenerational conversations within and beyond the Japanese American community are on view for the first time.
The evening will feature insights from curator Clement Hanami and JANM Board Chair Emeritus George Takei about the curation process and how the collection was transferred to JANM for safekeeping, as well as light fare.
This project was funded, in part, by a grant from the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Japanese American Confinement Sites Grant Program. Additional support was provided by George and Brad Takei, the Earle K. & Katherine F. (Muto) Moore Foundation, and Richard Sakai.
