Honorees
TOSHIZO WATANABE
JANM honors Toshizo Watanabe for his lifelong dedication to strengthening the relationship between the US and Japan. At JANM, he helped to establish the Democracy Center’s Toshizo Watanabe Democracy Fellowship, a professional development program that advances global democracy, leadership, diversity, and strengthens ties between the US and Japan through a generous endowment.
NOBUKO MIYAMOTO
From Broadway dancer to iconic singer-songwriter, Nobuko Miyamoto touches the soul with her artistry and activism. A longtime friend of JANM, her work reveals humanity’s interconnectedness. Her life’s work, captured in the film, Nobuko Miyamoto: A Song in Movement, stems from her passion for unity and belief in the power of one’s own agency.
JUDI OYAMA
JANM honors Judi Oyama for her fearless dedication and contributions to competitive slalom and downhill skateboarding. One of the first women to compete professionally, she remains one of the few Asian American skaters to achieve and maintain international championship titles.
