For opening weekend, Saturday, March 14, 1998, there will be a welcoming ceremony and performances from 11 a.m.–11:30 a.m. entitled “Mai Na Kupuna Mai” (From Our Ancestors to This Time Now), presented by the “Ainahau o Kaleponi” (From the Cool Lands of California) Hawaiian Civic Club. From 12:30 p.m.–1:30 p.m., a talk-story with the Exhibit team and informal panel discussion of the exhibition will take place, moderated by Jennifer Kim, Project Manager. And at 3 p.m., Dances of Okinawa will be presented by the Okinawan Association of America - Geino-bu Performing Arts.

On Sunday, March 15, 1998, Leilani Chan will enchant you with her “E Nana I Ke Kumu” (Look to the Source) performance at 11 a.m. Another talk-story with the Exhibit Team will be moderated by Akemi Kikumura, PhD, Project Director, and will take place at 12:30 p.m. At 2:30 p.m., an afternoon of music played on the shamisen (traditional Japanese string instrument), will fill the Museum in a Shamisen Spring Concert.
