Fresh Off The Page Series At Japanese American National Museum
Hear the latest, freshest, cheekiest new works read and performed by writers from the David Henry Hwang Writers Institute! Spoken word performances, scenes, songs, poetry, monologues and bold new comedy will all be featured on Thursday, May 14, 1998 from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. at the Japanese American National Museum, 369 East First Street in Little Tokyo. To make your reservations for this free and exciting performance, call (213) 625-0414.
Cara Chow, participating writer and staff member of the Japanese American National Museum said, “The Museum is a place where art, education, and social service intersect. The Fresh Off the Page reading series is a good example of this process. It nurtures new talent in the community by allowing writers to show their work. At the same time, it exposes the Museum audience to that talent.
“Programs like Fresh Off the Page nurture voices that may otherwise be silent. I am excited that the Museum and the Writers Institute have this kind of collaborative relationship. Most museums are good at preserving the past, but the Japanese American National Museum stands out because it honors the past and it nurtures the future of our community.”
Other artists such as Lucy J. Kim, Daniel Cariaga, Steve Park, Alice Tuan, Benjamin Lum, Euijoon Kim and John Song will also be on hand to perform their newest works. And there’s a special added event, the comedic and poetic group, Angry Haiku Deux!
This program is made possible in part by a grant from the City of Los Angeles, Cultural Affairs Department, and is sponsored by AT&T and East West Players.
