JANM Celebrates the Establishment of the Amache National Historic Site
LOS ANGELES, CA – The Japanese American National Museum (JANM) celebrates the establishment of the Amache National Historic Site in Granada, Colorado. The site is the nation’s newest unit of the National Park Service (NPS).
“Amache is one of the ten American concentration camps in which over 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry were incarcerated for the duration of World War ll. Their lives were changed forever. Welcoming Amache as America’s newest unit of the NPS ahead of Day of Remembrance gives special significance to this year’s commemoration. We hope that future generations can learn from the hard-fought lessons of this site and continue to tell its stories,” said Ann Burroughs, JANM President and CEO.
