NIKKEI INTERFAITH GROUP TO MARK ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF TSUNAMI/EARTHQUAKE DISASTER
Candlelight Vigil to be held on Sunday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. in JANM Plaza
The Nikkei Interfaith Group of Little Tokyo is organizing a Candlelight Vigil to mark the one-year anniversary of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami disaster on Sunday, March 16, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Museum Plaza. The event is being organized with the Nisei Week Foundation, and the Japanese American National Museum. It is free and open to the public.
The organizers explained, "A sea of candles will demonstrate the support of Little Tokyo, the city of Los Angeles, and the importance of solidarity amongst all of humankind in the face of this world disaster. This event will be reflective, as we remember the lives of individuals and families that were lost in this tragedy. It will also be hopeful, as we light candles that break the darkness of hopelessness and despair for those who survived and continue to struggle as they attempt to move forward in their lives."
The event will start promptly at 6:30 p.m.
