Statement regarding Rago auction of Japanese American artifacts

The Japanese American National Museum is concerned about the upcoming auction of historical art and artifacts. Although not all the facts are known about this particular auction, it is our hope that these Japanese American objects, and others like them, find their way to cultural institutions committed to conserving and sharing them with the wider community. Such items tell an important story for all Americans about the creativity and resilience of the human spirit, even in the face of racial prejudice that led to the unjust incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans.
