2024 Fellowship Candidate Criteria

 

General

  • Applicants must be Japanese citizens

 

Candidate Profile

  • Early to midcareer professionals from multiple sectors including government, the arts, media, nonprofits, higher education, and the corporate world
  • Evidence of leadership skills and potential for further growth
  • A demonstrated commitment to the public good
  • Interest in democratic values, cultural understanding, and collaboration across various sectors
  • Have a deep interest in broadening their understanding of the US
  • Position or career path that offers opportunities to have impact and influence on shaping policy, sustainability, diversity and inclusion, promoting civic engagement, forging strategic partnerships, and/or education
  • Attributes and individual qualities that support cross-cultural communication and cooperation
  • Commitment to stay engaged with, and support the growth of, the Watanabe Democracy Fellowship Alumni Network
  • Prerequisites: English proficiency, bachelor’s degree, 5–15 years relevant work experience
