Special Performance

Master musicians, Masakazu Yoshizawa on shakuhachi (bamboo flute) and Hiromi Hashibe on koto (stringed harp-like instrument), perform sokyoku (traditional classical) and contemporary music in this special concert.

Woodwind specialist Masakazu Yoshizawa is a multifaceted musician, composer, and studio and concert performer who has played and recorded with Henry Mancini, John Williams, the Jazz Crusaders, Berlin, Toshiko Akiyoshi, and Osamu Kitajima. His many movie soundtrack credits include: Jurassic Park, Joy Luck Club, and Dragon—The Bruce Lee Story. Hiromi Hashibe is a certified grand teacher of the famous Miyagi School of Koto in Japan and is the leader of her own koto group, Wakana-Kai. She has played in numerous concerts and recitals in the U.S. and Japan and her music can be heard on several movie soundtracks such as The Setting Sun and Man Trouble. Masakazu’s recordings Kyori—a solo shakuhachi work and Sorin with his group Kokin Gumi, are featured in the Museum Store.
