11th Annual Imagine Little Tokyo Short Story Contest Awards Ceremony

Marvel at the amazing ways creative writers and actors expand the fictional boundaries of the Japanese American experience at the 11th Imagine Little Tokyo Short Story Contest Awards Ceremony!

2024 marks the 140th anniversary of Little Tokyo, and this year’s event will be a vibrant celebration, its history and culture by those who love it, with special performers to be announced and raffle giveaways at the end of the program.

Ayumi Ito, Kurt Kanazawa, and Chloe Madriaga will provide dramatic readings of the winning short stories in the English Adult, Japanese, and Youth categories. The celebration will be emceed by writer, producer, and organizer Sean Miura. Winners and Honorable Mentions will be revealed at the celebration. Each category winner is awarded a cash prize and their story will be published in The Rafu Shimpo, on Discover Nikkei, and on the Little Tokyo Historical Society website. 

The contest is presented by Little Tokyo Historical Society in partnership with JANM’s Discover Nikkei project.

Ayumi Ito won a Japanese Academy Film Prize for Newcomer of the Year in director Shunji Iwai’s 1997 film, Swallowtail Butterfly. She made her US drama series debut as Misaki in Tokyo Vice and voiced the role of Tifa Lockhart in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Kurt Kanazawa is an accomplished actor and opera singer whose film and television credits include A Life in Pieces: The Diary of Stanley Hayami, Grey’s Anatomy, Bosch: Legacy, and No No Girl.

Chloe Madriaga is an award-winning artist from Maui and an ensemble member of Theatre of NOTE. She has narrated several audiobooks, including Every Drop a Man's Nightmare, Iced in Paradise, An Eternal Lei, Halfway to the Middle, Aftershock, and She Persisted: Patsy Mink.
