June Kuramoto: The Arigato Event

このイベントについて

In Japanese, the saying “Ichigo Ichie” translates to “Once chance, one opportunity.” Join us in expressing gratitude to the noted koto musician, June Kuramoto, in an Arigato event celebrating her legacy and community. This event gives Kuramoto the chance to thank her friends and family for their support and, in return, they can thank her for her years as a musician who has defined Japanese American arts and culture.

Kuramoto will be joined by family, friends, students, colleagues, and artists that have been a part of her journey through the years, including: Chris Komai, Shirley Muramoto, Derek Nakamoto, David Iwataki, Tracy Okida, Julia Carlblom, Eimie Des Marais, Duane Kubo, Emily Kinaga Wong, Brandon Kinaga Wong, Kimo Cornwell, Doug Aihara, Chris Aihara, and Dan Kuramoto.

The formal program will be followed by a reception outside the venue.

This program is cosponsored by JANM, The George and Sakaye Aratani CARE Award, and UCLA Asian American Studies Center.
