Roger Shimomura: Rebel With a Cause
Shimomura is often known for taking “oriental” stereotypes, such as Fu Manchu-esque caricatures of Asian men, and visually skewering them in provocative ways, with vibrant colors and sometimes even a dose of humor.

Roger Shimomura’s paintings, prints, and theater pieces address sociopolitical issues of Asian America. Many of his works are inspired by the diaries kept by his late immigrant grandmother for fifty-six years.
