JANM Mourns the Passing of Dr. Keith Terasaki

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Japanese American National Museum (JANM) mourns the passing of Dr. Keith Terasaki, a longtime supporter of JANM and many other educational and cultural institutions. A graduate of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Dr. Terasaki trained at the Los Angeles County Hospital and Stanford University. His distinguished career in medicine included work as an Interventional Radiologist at the Kaiser Hospital in Hollywood, where he was chief of the Radiology Department from 2003 to 2014. The son of transplant pioneer Paul Terasaki and philanthropist Hisako Terasaki, he served as chair of the Terasaki Family Foundation, Terasaki Research Institute, and Terasaki Center for Japanese Studies at UCLA. His other community service included serving on the boards of the Colburn School, YMCA of Metro Los Angeles, and Little Tokyo Service Center, and as chair and volunteer radiologist of the John Wesley Health Clinic, a key provider of health care on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles. He served on the Advisory Councils of JANM’s Norman Y. Mineta and Irene H. Hirano Distinguished Lecture Series.

“Dr. Keith Terasaki carried on the strong philanthropic legacy of his grandparents and parents. He was keenly aware of the importance of preserving Japanese American history across the generations and was a long and loyal supporter of JANM. His dedication to health equity for underserved people was a tremendous service to downtown Los Angeles,” said Ann Burroughs, JANM President and CEO. “We will miss his sage council and his regular presence at JANM events. Our thoughts go out to the Terasaki family.”
