'Nights Of Fire, Nights Of Rain' Reading
Poet Amy Uyematsu will read from her latest book of poems, Nights of Fire, Nights of Rain, on Saturday, April 25, 1998 from 2 p.m.–4 p.m., at the Japanese American National Museum, located at 369 East First Street in the Little Tokyo Historic District of Los Angeles. Her new collection of poetry addresses living in Los Angeles during the mid-1990’s, from the riots and violence of the city, to fires and other natural disasters. This reading is free with Museum admission ($4) and reservations can be made by calling 213.625.0414.
Bass musician Taiji Miyagawa will provide musical accompaniment, as Uyematsu reads her poems ranging from intimate tales and meditations, to rants and celebrations. Uyematsu, whose first book, 30 Miles From J-Town (1992) received the Nicholas Roerich Poetry Award, will give us her perspective as a Sansei woman, 3rd-generation Angelino, public schoolteacher, aging babyboomer, and mother.
