'REMEMBERING MANZANAR' DOCUMENTARY TO BE SCREENED JAN. 30

The documentary, "Remembering Manzanar", a compilation of rare historic footage, photographs and personal recollections from former inmates of the most famous World War II government-run domestic concentration camps, will be screened on Saturday, Jan. 30, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Japanese American National Museum in Little Tokyo.

Created for use at the Interpretive Center at the Manzanar National Historic Site, part of the National Parks Service and the Department of the Interior, "Remembering Manzanar" gives viewers a sense of the place and its past, and a glimpse into a time when American citizens were falsely incarcerated by their own government because of their race. The documentary explores the experiences of more than 10,000 Japanese Americans who were imprisoned in the remote desert facility during World War II, located between Lone Pine and Independence off of Highway 395 located in Inyo County.

This program, "Eyewitness to History", is organized for students, providing them with the opportunity to hear first-hand accounts of historic events and to engage in an active dialogue. The program is free for National Museum members or with general admission. For more information, call the Japanese American National Museum at (213) 625-0414 or go to www.janm.org.
