Waterfall: Dance, Koto And Taiko Performance At The Japanese American National Museum

Let the mysticism of waterfalls affect you in a way it never has before in “Waterfall,” a new dance performance choreographed and performed by Rei Aoo, Director of the U.S. Dance Connection. On Thursday, July 16 from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m., Ms. Aoo will showcase her talent of combining modern dance, ballet, and Japanese classical dance as she interprets the movement of waterfalls. Free with Museum admission at the Japanese American National Museum, located at 369 East First Street in Little Tokyo. Please call (213) 625-0414 for reservations or more information.

Musical accompaniment will be performed by koto (Japanese stringed instrument) player Yukiko Matsuyama, and the taiko (drum) will be performed by Tom Kurai, Director of the Taiko Center of Los Angeles and instructor for the Museum’s taiko class.

Ms. Aoo has danced in Japan with the renowned Kawazoe Ballet Company, and has graced several local stages in musicals and music videos. Ms. Aoo also wrote, directed and starred in Interplay, a piece about a Japanese national adjusting to life in the United States which premiered at the Los Angeles Theatre Center.
