「グレン・カイノ:アキの店」は、アキラとサチエ・シライシ夫妻が1957年から1970年にかけてイースト・ロサンゼルスのコミュニティーで営んでいた小さな店に着想を得ています。アキラの孫で、祖父の名前を継いだグレン・アキラ・カイノが制作したこの展覧会では、 カイノとその家族、コミュニティーの物語を通して、第二次世界大戦中に日系アメリカ人が経験した強制収容が引き起こした世代を超えたトラウマに焦点を当てます。本展は、アメリカが行った強制移住という行為への問いかけでもあり、およそ100年に及ぶ文化的抑圧の苦しみを、スピリチュアルで探索的な空間に解き放ち、平和の根幹となる要素を見出すことができる機会となるかもしれません。本展は、カイノの祖父であるアキラ・シライシの生涯をもとにして作られています。アキラは高校時代、よく知られたフットボール選手でしたが、ワイオミング州のハートマウンテン強制収容所に収容され、オクシデンタル大学への進学という夢を諦...
