Whether they are in the locker room with the Los Angeles Lakers or at a press conference at the Staples Center, Tim Kawakami and Rob Fukuzaki are important names in the high-profile world of Los Angeles professional sports. In a profession once bereft of any Japanese Americans, Kawakami and Fukuzaki have what some would consider dream careers.
Kawakami is the Los Angeles Times Lakers beat reporter and writes a weekly column on Mondays called, “The Morning After.” Fukuzaki is a weekend sports anchor and reporter, and covers all major Southern California professional and collegiate sports teams.
How did they get these jobs? How did they choose to enter a profession that few Japanese Americans have chosen? What can they tell about their experiences covering the local sports teams and interviewing Shaq, Kobe, Oscar de la Hoya, and Eric Karros? A great program for sports fans and non-fans alike!
