PERFORMING ARTS SERIES
Kabuki Underground is a play about six people who live in an apartment complex where the circuit breakers go out all too often. The characters that come to life in the "dark" include an ailing grandfather and his recently widowed granddaughter, an agoraphobic photographer, a husband who doesn't just water the lawn on his day off, an alcoholic underground kabuki actor, a mime, and alongside the living, a ghost or two singing and waltzing to melodies of old. When the lights are turned back on, so are the secrets.
Miki Nishikawa is a native of Southern California. She is extremely grateful for her introduction into the world of Asian American theater through the auspices of the David Henry Huang Writers' Institute writing group and through all the inspirational, generous, and gifted people who have welcomed her into this world.
